Text Diff
Compare two text versions in your browser with git diff-style output and download unified diffs without uploading your content.
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input is never uploaded.
What is a text diff?
A text diff shows how one version differs from another, similar to git diff. It is useful for reviewing code, configuration, JSON, logs, documentation, and generated output.
Change highlighting
The tool detects three types of changes:
- Added — lines present only in the new text (green background,
+prefix). - Removed — lines present only in the original text (red background,
-prefix). - Modified — lines that differ between versions. Modified lines show the old and new versions with inline character-level highlighting, so you can see exactly which characters changed.
In side-by-side view, both panels scroll in sync for easy comparison.
Ignore options
You can ignore whitespace differences, trim trailing spaces, or compare without regard to letter case. These options change how comparison units are matched; the original text is still shown in the result.
Privacy and limits
Both inputs are processed locally in your browser. Larger comparisons run in a Web Worker. Combined input is limited to 1 MB to keep the page responsive.
Unified diff format
Downloaded files contain --- and +++ headers followed by lines prefixed with a space, +, or -. Modified lines appear as a - line followed by a + line.
