Text Truncator
Cut text down to a limit by characters, UTF-8 bytes, words or lines, keeping the start, end or both, with an ellipsis.
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input is never uploaded.
Text Truncator
Cut text down to a fixed length without uploading it anywhere. Everything runs locally in your browser.
Features
- Count by characters, bytes, words or lines — characters are counted as code points, so an emoji counts as one. Byte mode measures UTF-8 and never cuts a multi-byte character in half.
- Keep the start, the end or both ends — head keeps the first N units, tail keeps the last N, middle splits the budget between the two ends.
- Custom marker — replace
…with any text, or leave the field empty for a plain cut. - Marker counts toward the limit — a limit of 160 really returns at most 160 characters, which is what meta descriptions and CMS fields require.
- Word mode — cut on word boundaries and drop the separator in front of a kept tail, so the result stays readable.
- Counts — see the original length and the resulting length side by side.
- Export — copy the result, move it into the input to keep trimming, or download it as a
.txtfile.
Nothing is truncated when the text already fits the limit, and no marker is added in that case.
All processing stays on your device; no data leaves the browser.
