ZIP Archive Tool

Open a ZIP to browse, preview, and download its files, or pack files and folders into a new ZIP. Everything runs in your browser.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input is never uploaded.

What this tool does

Two jobs in one place. Open & extract lets you look inside a ZIP without installing anything: browse every entry, preview text and images, then download individual files or repack a selection. Create ZIP packs your own files and folders into an archive. Both run entirely on your device, and the archive is never uploaded.

Opening and extracting

Drop a .zip file, or choose one, and the entries appear with their uncompressed size and folder structure. Type in the filter box to narrow the list by name or path — wildcards work too, for example *.png or src/*. Click any entry to preview it, then select the files you want and either Extract to folder, which writes them straight into a folder you pick, or Download .zip, which repacks the selection.

By default the entries are shown as a collapsible folder tree; enable Flatten to switch to a flat list. The same switch also drops the directory structure for both output actions: every selected file lands at the top level, and files that share a name get a numbered suffix. Extract to folder relies on the File System Access API, so it only appears in Chrome and Edge; in other browsers use the ZIP download.

Text files open as plain text and common images show inline. Anything else is reported as having no preview; download it to open it. To keep the tab responsive, entries above a size limit are not previewed, and archives that exceed the file-count or total-size caps are rejected with a message pointing you to a desktop tool.

Creating an archive

Switch to Create ZIP, then add files, add a folder, or drop files and folders onto the panel. Choose a root folder name to nest everything under one directory, and pick a compression level: Store only is fastest and best for already-compressed content like photos, while Normal or Best shrink text and source code. Duplicate target names are renamed automatically instead of overwriting.

Safety and privacy

Entry paths are sanitized before use. Archive entries that try to escape the archive — absolute paths, .. segments, or backslashes from another platform — are flagged in the list, and the exported ZIP never contains them. Encrypted archives are detected and reported rather than failing silently.

Nothing is uploaded. Files are read from your disk, processed in memory, and written back through your browser's download.

Limits

Very large archives are limited on purpose: whole-file reading happens in memory, so the tool warns above a few hundred megabytes and refuses archives with too many entries or an oversized uncompressed total. For those, a desktop archive manager is the better tool.
