What to remove
What does this EXIF remover do?
This tool strips EXIF and other metadata from your images directly in the browser. Drop in a JPEG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF file, choose what to remove, and download a cleaned copy. For multiple files, package the results into a single ZIP archive. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
What metadata can be removed?
- GPS location — the GPS latitude, longitude, and altitude recorded by the camera or phone.
- Device & software — camera make and model, the software used to process the file, and lens information.
- Capture time — the original date and time the photo was taken.
- All metadata — every EXIF tag, plus embedded XMP and ICC color profiles when you choose the full-clear option.
You can keep the orientation flag so the picture still rotates correctly on devices that rely on it.
How the removal works
The tool rewrites the image's metadata blocks without re-encoding the pixel data, so the visual result is identical to the original. For JPEG it rebuilds the APP1 segment, for PNG it removes the eXIf chunk and metadata text chunks, for WebP it drops the EXIF chunk, and for AVIF it removes the nested Exif box. The container stays valid and the file size drops by exactly the size of the removed metadata.
Supported formats
JPEG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF. Formats that do not carry EXIF (such as GIF) are returned unchanged.
Why remove EXIF?
Photos often embed precise GPS coordinates, the device serial details, and the exact capture time. Sharing them online can leak where and when a picture was taken. Stripping that metadata before posting protects your privacy while keeping the image itself intact.
Privacy and security
Everything runs locally in your browser tab. The image is decoded and rewritten in memory; nothing is uploaded to any server and no data is stored after you close the page. Object URLs for previews are revoked when you remove a file or leave the page.
