What this tool does

Pick one of nine open-source licenses — MIT, Apache-2.0, BSD-3-Clause, BSD-2-Clause, ISC, MPL-2.0, GPL-3.0-only, AGPL-3.0-only, or Unlicense — fill in the copyright holder and year, and the LICENSE text is rendered on the right. Switch to the Header tab for a per-file copyright notice in //, #, /* */, or <!-- --> comment style. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.

License texts

Texts follow the SPDX License List verbatim. MIT, ISC, BSD, and the Apache APPENDIX notice take your holder and year (empty fields become [fullname] / [year] placeholders, with a warning below the output). MPL, GPL, AGPL, and Unlicense bodies have no placeholders and render unchanged — for those, your holder and year go into the Header tab instead: the Apache boilerplate, the MPL Exhibit A notice, or the FSF "how to apply" notice with the "or any later version" clause removed (these are -only variants). The long texts (Apache, MPL, GPL, AGPL) load on demand the first time you select them.

At a glance

Each license shows a permission summary: what it allows (commercial use, modification, distribution, private use, patent use), what it requires (license notice, stating changes, disclosing source, same-license sharing, and for AGPL, network use counting as distribution), and the standard no-liability, no-warranty disclaimer. It is a quick chooser aid, not legal advice.

Copying and saving

Use Copy to put the current tab on the clipboard, or Download to save it — the LICENSE tab saves as LICENSE (no extension, ready to drop into a repo root) and the Header tab as LICENSE-header.txt. Clear resets the holder and year but keeps your license choice. Your inputs are remembered on this device when tool memory is enabled.
