Text to Speech

Read text aloud in your browser, adjust speed and pitch, pick a voice, play in segments with highlighting, and record the result as audio.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input is never uploaded.

Input text
Reading view0 segments

Click a segment to start reading from there. The current segment is highlighted.

What this tool does

Converts text into spoken audio using the browser's built-in speech synthesis. Everything runs locally; no text is uploaded to a server.

Long text is split into segments so reading never cuts off mid-way, and the current segment is highlighted while it is spoken. Click any segment to start reading from there.

Speed, pitch and voices

Two sliders tune speech:

  • Speed controls how fast the text is read.
  • Pitch raises or lowers the voice.

The voice picker lists the voices installed on your system. Use the language filter to narrow them down, or leave the default for the browser to choose. Voices are provided by the operating system, so the available set varies by device and browser.

Playing in segments

The reading view shows every segment. The speaking position is tracked and highlighted as playback advances; pause and resume continue from where you stopped, not from the beginning.

Recording and exporting audio

The Web Speech API does not expose raw audio, so export works by recording the tab's sound output. Clicking Export audio opens the system screen/tab picker:

  1. Choose the current tab.
  2. Enable Also share tab audio in the picker.
  3. The tool then reads the full text from the start while MediaRecorder captures the sound.
  4. Press Stop (or let it finish) to save an audio file.

The recorded file uses the browser's recorder format, typically WebM. Microphone input is never used.

Privacy

All processing happens in this browser tab. Text is never sent to a server, and recorded audio stays on your device.
