Identicon & Initials Avatar Generator

Turn a username, email, or any text into a deterministic identicon or initials avatar. Export SVG or PNG locally, nothing leaves the browser.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input is never uploaded.

Enter a seed to generate an avatar. The same seed always produces the same avatar.

What is this tool?

Default avatars are what a profile shows before someone uploads a picture. This tool builds one from a seed — a username, an email address, or any other text — so the same seed always produces the same image, and different seeds look different.

Everything is drawn locally as vector SVG. No image is uploaded and no third-party avatar service is called.

Identicon

The identicon style fills a square grid with a hash-derived pattern that is mirrored horizontally, and derives its color from the seed too. Adjust the grid size between 4 and 8 to make the pattern denser or chunkier, and switch to a circle for round profile slots.

Colors are derived from the seed by default, with the hue quantized to 24 buckets so neighboring avatars stay easy to tell apart. Uncheck Auto colors to pick a foreground and background yourself, or make the background transparent for pages that already provide one.

Initials

The initials style takes the first letter of each word — or the first letters of a single word — and prints them on a seed-derived background. Initials are extracted safely for emails (john.doe@example.com becomes JD) and keep CJK and emoji characters intact. Text color is picked automatically for contrast, and you can switch to uppercase or a single letter.

Note: this generates GitHub- and Gravatar-style avatars, but it cannot reproduce those services' images pixel for pixel — they hash each account's numeric ID, and their exact outcome is not part of any specification.

Export

Copy the SVG source for inline use, download it as an .svg file, or rasterize a 512×512 .png for apps that only accept bitmaps.
