Image to Pixel Art

Pixelate images locally, adjust pixel size, limit colors, generate a palette, show a grid, and export PNG or color tables.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input is never uploaded.

What this tool does

Turn a photo into pixel art in your browser. Upload, drag, or paste an image; it is downsampled to a small grid and shown with hard pixel edges. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

Pixel size and color count

The target width slider sets how many pixels wide the result is; the height follows the image's aspect ratio. The block hint shows roughly how many source pixels each block covers.

Enable limit colors to reduce the image to a chosen number of colors. The reduction uses median-cut quantization followed by nearest-color mapping, so the result looks like a limited palette rather than a blur.

Preview controls

  • Zoom scales the preview with nearest-neighbor sampling so pixels stay sharp.
  • Grid overlays the block boundaries, which is helpful when drawing or checking alignment.

Exporting

  • Export PNG writes the pixelated image at 1x, 2x, 4x, or 8x, using nearest-neighbor scaling.
  • Palette exports save the extracted colors as JSON, Adobe Swatch Exchange (ASE), GIMP palette (GPL), or CSS variables. Click a swatch to copy its HEX value.

Performance and privacy

Pixelation runs in a Web Worker with OffscreenCanvas when available, falling back to the main thread otherwise. All processing stays on your device.
